Winter Sports: Skating

Winter Sports: SkatingSkating is a very popular winter sport. Both adults and children skate with a great pleasure. If you haven’t thought about how to join skating fans, it is never too late to do it. Skating, as well as dancing, can be learnt at any age. Besides the fact that skating makes you to move more and to be outdoors, it improves body posture, coordination, ownership of the body, makes your movement more plastic and expressive.

You can ask what you need to begin skating. You need only the desire to start and some spare time. And, of course, skates! To spend great time at the skating rink you will need figure skates, hockey skates or skates for easy skating. Each type of skates fits their purpose.

I guess we should choose skates for easy skating, not specialized for some particular sport. These skates are warmed inside, soft outside, without any special protection for the ankle and toes. In short, they are perfect for calm rest at the skating rink. Skates must be the same size as your normal shoes. Don’t forget to wear a thin pair of warm socks to feel the ice and to control the feet better.

For the first time at the skating rink, choose not crowded rink or off-peak time. To make sure you can invite more experienced friend with you or ask the coach for help. However, this is optional: if you believe in yourself and have a normal physical form, you will be able to learn the wisdom of skating by yourself.

Remember! The rink traffic is directed counterclockwise. Do not violate this rule and do not skate "upstream", because you can create a danger for yourself and for others.

Well, skates are on your feet, hold on to the side of the rink and carefully make a step on the ice. Stand calmly a little. Then make a step, then another one. Feel the ice and understand that you stand in your skates firmly. Help to maintain equilibrium by spreading your arms in the sides with palms down at the level of waist or slightly above. Make the first steps moving close to the rink side.

Don’t be afraid of falls. Actually falls at the rink are not terrible if you keep some rules. First, falling, do not lie - the ice is cold. Besides you will disturb those who are skating around. Protect the head: during the fall forward incline the head back, during the fall back - to clasp the chin to your bosom. The correct fall will save you from injury.

For beginning it will be better to skate for a short period of time, approximately 15-20 minutes two or three times a week. It is enough to master the simplest elements of skating. Even brief regular lessons will help you to feel yourself on skates with confidence for one season.

If you want your child to learn skating, send him to the nursery group. Who knows? Maybe your kid is the future champion!
